Popular outdoor family activities include trail rides, camping, golfing, swimming, boating, hiking, fishing, hunting, wagon rides, and river activities, including tubing and canoeing on the Niobrara River. Each community along the Outlaw Trail provides a unique experience, from winery tours to Old West Days. The route is host to the biannual Quilt Way, attracting visitors from throughout the region.

Highway 12 Scenic Byway
From Valentine to Willis and South Sioux City, Nebraska’s Scenic Trail encompasses 231 miles of pristine beauty and undiscovered treasures. The trip that took outlaws, pioneers, cowboys, and Indians, many days or even weeks to traverse, is your opportunity to experience a fun-filled vacation, action-packed with breathtaking scenery, captivating legends, and activities that suit a wide variety of interests. The Outlaw Trail encompasses part of the same route used by Lewis & Clark and their youngest member, Private George Shannon. Pvt. Shannon was lost in the area for 16 days during the team’s 1804 Expedition.
